The life and musical legacy of Kirsty MacColl will be celebrated this fall at a star-studded tribute concert in London featuring the likes of Alison Moyet, Billy Bragg, Johnny Marr and Shane MacGowan, who famously duetted with the late singer on the Pogues’ holiday classic “Fairytale of New York.”
Already sold out, “A Concert for Kirsty MacColl” is set for Oct. 10 — what would have been MacColl’s 51st birthday — at the O2 Sheperd’s Bush Empire in London. The event, which benefits MacColl’s charity Music Fund for Cuba, marks the 10th anniversary of the singer’s controversial death in a Mexican boating accident.
In a statement about the concert posted on Moyet’s website, MacColl’s mother, Jean MacColl, writes, “I would like to thank all those musicians who have said they will perform. It’s wonderful of them to give of their time to make sure that the event celebrates Kirsty’s life as she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”
Isn’t Amy Macdonald playing at this tribute concert?
