The Dream Syndicate’s sophomore album Medicine Show will be reissued this spring in expanded form, and to mark the occasion, former frontman Steve Wynn will perform the long-out-of-print record and its predecessor, The Days of Wine and Roses, in their entirety at a pair of Atlanta concerts.
Full details of the new reissue haven’t yet been announced, but Wynn wrote on his website last fall that the classic Paisley Underground act’s 1984 album “will be reissued with a shiny new master, bonus tracks and extensive liner notes sometime this spring.” That was followed late last month by the announcement that “Steve and the Miracle 3 will take a break from the recording of their new album with a two-night stand at the 529 Club in Atlanta to kick off the reissue of Medicine Show.”
The concerts, on May 14 and 15, will feature Wynn and his current band — Jason Victor, Dave DeCastro and Linda Pitmon — performing Medicine Show front-to-back on the first night and 1982’s The Days of Wine and Roses on the second, with “both sets fortified with many extra songs both old and brand new.”
The reissue of Medicine Show follows Rhino Records’ 2001 re-release of The Days of Wine and Roses in an expanded single-disc edition, with bonus tracks that included the four-song The Down There EP and four more rehearsal tracks and alternate takes. At the time of that release, Wynn performed the record live in its entirety, and did the same with Medicine Show last summer in New York and Los Angeles.
