Peter Buck, Steve Wynn and Scott McCaughey plan triple-bill band-swapping tour

Peter Buck, Steve Wynn, Linda Pitmon and Scott McCaughey

R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn and Young Fresh Fellows’ Scott McCaughey will tour the U.S. this summer and fall under a trio of musical guises — The Minus 5, The Baseball Project and The Steve Wynn IV — that apparently are all one in the same.

The triple-bill concerts, which run Aug. 26 through Oct. 1, will feature Buck, Wynn, McCaughey and drummer Linda Pitmon (Wynn’s wife, who has played with Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3 and Golden Smog) playing in all three bands “with a possible costume change or two.”

“I’m fairly certain it won’t be a typical three-band bill with separate sets,” Wynn says in a news release. “And I have a feeling we’ll be mixing it up and changing from night to night.”

The quartet will be promoting a trio of releases: the Minus 5’s just-released Killingsworth (featuring McCaughey and Buck), The Baseball Project’s 2008 debut Volume One: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails (featuring all four) and Wynn’s 2008 solo album Crossing Dragon Bridge (featuring Wynn and Pitmon).
