R.E.M. ‘This Is Not a Show’ concert film to receive limited theatrical screenings

In conjunction with this month’s release of its Live at the Olympia album, R.E.M. is presenting “This Is Not a Theatrical Release,” a series of limited sneak-preview screenings across the country of the “un-concert documentary” being packaged with the special 2CD/1DVD edition of its new live album.

Directed by Vincent Moon and Jeremiah (who produced the band’s video for “Supernatural Superserious”), “This Is Not a Show: Live at the Olympia in Dublin” will screen at select theaters and venues nationwide beginning tonight in Cambridge, Mass., and running through early November (see video clips below). Additionally, R.E.M. is holding a listening party and screening Oct. 26 in its hometown of Athens, Ga.

Due out Oct. 26, the 39-track live album and accompanying concert film was culled from five nights of “working rehearsals.” Michael Stipe and Co. played five concerts at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre during June and July of 2007 road-testing new songs prior to recording Accelerate, which came out the following year.
