Nirvana’s 1989 debut Bleach — also known as that record they made before Nevermind — will receive a 20th anniversary reissue this fall that will include a bonus, previously unreleased live concert, Sub Pop Records announced today.
Due out Nov. 3, Bleach: Deluxe Edition will include the original 13-track album plus the 12-track Live at Pine Street Theatre packaged together on a single, expanded CD or double LP. Plus, the first run of the double LP will be on 180-gram white vinyl, mimicking Sub Pop’s original white-vinyl first pressing of Bleach.
The unreleased live set was recorded Feb. 9, 1990, at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Ore., and includes the band’s cover of The Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips.” The concert recording has been remixed from the original tapes by Bleach producer Jack Endino, who also oversaw remastering of the record itself.
According to Sub Pop, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and drummers Chad Channing and Dale Crover recorded Bleach over three sessions with Endino at Seattle’s Reciprocal Recording Studios in December 1988 and January 1989. The record was released June 15, 1989, and famously sold just 40,000 copies… until the band’s sophomore album Nevermind exploded in 1991 and propelled the debut to sales of more than 1.7 million in the U.S. alone.
