‘Scared To Get Happy: A Story of Indie-Pop 1980-1989’ 5CD box set tracklist revealed

Cherry Red Records today unveiled the massive, 127-song tracklist for its now 5-disc box called Scared To Get Happy: A Story of Indie-Pop 1980-1989, which the U.K. label has said is inspired by Lenny Kaye’s classic Nuggets garage-rock compilation and is “devoted to the 1980s indie guitar-pop revolution which swept across the British Isles.”

According to a post on the project’s Facebook page, the tracklist is finalized, but could still change (“still a few tracks we want”). It’s expected to come out some time in mid-June, likely to coincide with a concert planned for London on June 22 that will feature The Primitives, Mighty Mighty, Popguns and other acts included on the forthcoming box set.

The is expected to feature a 72-page booklet and retail for around £50, or about $80.

Check out the full tracklist below, which features contributions from The House of Love, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Prefab Sprout, Josef K, Pulp, Primal Scream, The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Stone Roses, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Soup Dragons and many, many more.

  1. Henry Bemis

I’m a bit excited about this box set.

  2. Fantastic! But where is Felt? Or The Wake? Sad Lovers And Giants? My Bloody Valentine?

  3. The lack of a Felt track is inexcusable.

  4. SteveinSoCal

Any compilation from the halcyon days of UK indie pop is going to have a few gaps – there’s no pure pop from the Chefs (for gawds sake) – but there’s the Woodentops, Josef K, GAOB! and Dolly Mixture. I for one am very, very excited

  5. The Chefs is a good call! Just e-mailed Helen McCookerybook to see if we can get “24 Hours”. You’d think I’d have remembered that one being from Brighton – we all bought stuff on Attrix.

  6. The Chefs said no. Who’d have thought it?!

  7. Surprised nothing from The Ocean Blue
