This week’s headlines on Slicing Up Eyeballs included news of a new Kate Bush album, tour dates from X and Dinosaur Jr, new music from Simple Minds, INXS and The Waterboys, and a very cool contest for fans of The Smiths.

The Waterboys return next week with their first new album in four years, the 14-track ‘An Appointment with Mr. Yeats,’ which features songs bandleader Mike Scott created from the lyrics of Irish poet W.B. Yeats for the stage show of the same name.

This week’s new releases include Kate Bush’s new ‘Director’s Cut’ and five reissues; four 2CD reissues from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; Peter Hook’s ‘1102/2011′ EP of Joy Division covers; The Replacements’ ‘Don’t Tell a Soul’ on vinyl; and a 2CD reissue of the Go-Go’s ‘Beauty and the Beat.’

This week’s new releases include a new Morrissey best-of, Mike Scott’s piano demos for The Waterboys’ ‘This Is the Sea,’ a vintage INXS live album, and reissues of The Fall’s 1999 album ‘The Marshall Suite,’ The Durutti Column’s 1989 record ‘Vini Reilly’ and a new audiophile vinyl pressing of The Psychedelic Furs’ ‘Talk Talk Talk.’

A month before ‘In a Special Place: The Piano Demos for This Is The Sea’ is released in the U.K., Mike Scott sat down at EMI headquarters for this 12-minute interview about the making of The Waterboys’ classic 1985 album and the forthcoming demos collection.

Bandleader Mike Scott this spring will release an album’s worth of piano and vocal demos recorded for The Waterboys’ 1985 record ‘This Is The Sea.’ The 15-track ‘In A Special Place’ is due out April 25 on EMI.

With a new multi-disc box set of live and studio rarities due this spring, Karl Wallinger will kick off World Party’s 25th anniversary year with five concerts at South By Southwest and in New York City in March — a prelude for the band’s ‘most extensive U.S. tour since 2006.’
