Peter Hook’s North American tour gets underway tonight in Boston — he’ll be performing New Order’s first two albums, 1981′s Movement and 1983′s Power, Corruptions & Lies, in their entirety each night — and the bassist is using the occasion to drop by “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” when the trek hits New York.

The unlikely pairing of Elvis Costello and The Roots this week debuted the first fruit of their new collaboration, premiering on Pitchfork the single and lyric video for “Walk Us Uptown,” the first single off the forthcoming Wise Up Ghost. The album is due out Sept. 17 on Blue Note Records.

Elvis Costello has traded The Imposters for The Roots, teaming up with the venerable hip-hop act and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” house band to record a brand- new full-length album called Wise Up Ghost that will be released by Blue Note Records this September.

The Jesus and Mary Chain’s brief run through Texas last month appears to be the beginning of an active 2012: In addition to today’s announcement of the band’s first-ever concert in China, the brothers Reid also will come back to the U.S. for a string of new dates in both June and September.

It’s Bruce Springsteen week over at “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and last night saw Elvis Costello stop by the show to help celebrate the release of the Boss’ new album. Backed by The Roots, Costello played Springsteen’s “Brilliant Disguise” on air and stuck around for a web-only performance of “Fire.”

Sure, it was no Sugar reunion, but it was nice to see Bob Mould and The Roots jam through ‘Copper Blue’ stand-out ‘If I Can’t Change Your Mind’ on last night’s ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ — even if it was only a minute long.
