The plan to issue a previously unreleased live take of a song off The Smiths’ landmark third album The Queen is Dead continued today with the debut of a live recording of “Frankly Mr. Shankly” from the band’s concert at the Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Aug. 16, 1986. The upcoming expanded reissue of The Smiths’ classic 1986 album The Queen is Dead, it turns out, will be bigger than originally thought. Rhino Records this morning formally announced the first-ever expanded reissue from the legendary band, revealing that it will be be released as a 3CD/1DVD boxed set.

There’s not yet been an official announcement of the upcoming expanded reissue of The Smiths’ 1986 album The Queen is Dead, yet the band’s Facebook page today debuted one of the bonus cuts on that set: the so-called “Take 1” of “There is a Light That Never Goes Out.” Hear it right here.

In the wake of last month’s surprise release of a new “The Queen is Dead” single, The Smiths’ Facebook page has been hinting that something more is in the works involving the band’s beloved 1986 album. And today, it seems, came the first evidence of what many have suspected: The Queen is Dead will receive an expanded reissue.
