A collection of B-sides and non-album tracks by Celtic punk favorites The Pogues is being compiled for the first time for Record Store Day this spring.

Sinead O’Connor is returning to the concert stage after a four-year hiatus with a short Irish tour this fall — and she made her public re-appearance last week with a stunning performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” and The Pogues’ “Rainy Night in Soho” on Irish TV’s “The Late Late Show.” Watch both right here.

This week’s new releases include an 11LP box set from The Jesus and Mary Chain, 8CD box sets from Cabaret Voltaire and The Pogues, a 3CD box set from Daniel Ash of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, and a new vinyl reissue of ‘The Return of the Durutti Column.’

Five months after announcing he’d fallen ill again and that “this time the cancer is lethal,” The Pogues guitarist Philip Chevron, who joined the band after the release of its first album, today lost his battle with cancer, the group revealed via Facebook, saying he “passed away peacefully this morning.”

For a band that swore off its traditional Christmas tours of the U.K. following a 2010 outing, The Pogues just keep coming back. After last year’s one-off December gig in London, the band returns this year with a four-date U.K. tour during which it will perform its classic 1985 album Rum, Sodomy & The Lash,

After first battling cancer in 2007, Philip Chevron — who first joined The Pogues shortly after the release of the Celtic rockers’ 1984 debut Red Roses For Me — this week announced that his cancer is back, and that, this time, it’s “inoperable and will prove fatal in time, though it is at present impossible to measure life expectancy.”

This week’s new releases include the first new David Bowie album in a decade, a “lost album” from Duran Duran spinoff TV Mania, a 2CD set of Jellyfish instrumentals, a Pogues 2CD best-of, a Pixies radio broadcast from 1991 and a live Cabaret Voltaire DVD filmed in 1992.

This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from Adam Ant, Camper Van Beethoven and Bad Religion, plus reissues of a pair of Jesus and Mary Chain comps on vinyl, a new best-of from The Pogues, and a belated commercial release of a film score released last year by The The.

Not a lot of action on the new-release front as we approach the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, but this week does see the release of a new Paul Weller vinyl EP collecting some of the ‘Sonik Kicks’ B-sides, plus a 2CD U.S. release of the recent ‘The Pogues in Paris’ live album

This week’s new releases include a 2CD live set from Simple Minds, an archival live album from Dinosaur Jr on vinyl and MP3, reissues from The Jam and The Blue Nile, a CD/DVD 30th anniversary live set from The Pogues and a collection of Elvis Costello songs used in films.

This Christmas marks the 25th anniversary of the boozy holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl, so, to mark the occasion, the band is reissuing the 1987 single in a variety of digital and vinyl formats with new cover art.

The Pogues next month will release a special 30th anniversary live package in multiple audio and video formats, a set recorded at the band’s concerts in Paris last month and dubbed, naturally, “The Pogues in Paris: 30th Anniversary Concert at the Olympia.” Check out the trailer for the video release.

The Pogues may or may not have sworn off their traditional Christmas tours of the U.K. following their 2010 outing, but the folk-punk favorites are set to play a one-off London concert this December. Billed as the band’s only U.K show of the band’s ongoing 30th anniversary tour, the Dec. 20 gig is set for London’s O2 Arena.
