The Mission opens its first North American tour in more than a decade tonight in Washington, D.C., and the band is using the occasion to debut the music video for “Sometimes the Brightest Light Comes From the Darkest Place,” the lead single from forthcoming album The Brightest Light.

While they’ve already previewed one song from their upcoming reunion album, The Mission this week released the record’s first official single: “Sometimes the Brightest Light Comes From the Darkest Place,” which is not only available for sale digitally, but it can also be downloaded, for free, in remixed form.

Peter Murphy’s been on the road since April with his “Mr. Moonlight Tour,” and when it came time to wrap it up Wednesday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the former Bauhaus leader had a treat for fans: He was joined by The Mission’s Wayne Hussey to perform T. Rex’s “Telegram Sam” and David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust.”

We’re still more than a month out from the release of The Mission’s The Brightest Light, but the band this week premiered the first full track off the record: “Drag,” a song Wayne Hussey describes as a “throwaway” blues rocker that was so fun to play that he ended up finding a place or it on the album.
