The House of Love — largely dormant following a couple years’ worth of activity surrounding ‘Days Run Away,’ the band’s 2005 reunion album — will make what appears to be its first live appearance in more than four years later this summer when the beloved indie act appears at the Off Festival in Katowice, Poland.

It’s Guy Chadwick’s 55th birthday today, so to celebrate, here’s The House of Love performing its third single, the classic ‘Christine,’ on the U.K.’s ‘The South Bank Show’ in 1988.

Highlights of tonight’s episode of ‘Dark Wave’ on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave include more deep Depeche Mode album cuts, a double dose of The House of Love and a triple serving of The Smiths.

Tonight’s installment of “Dark Wave” featured a few nice surprises, including a live version of Depeche Mode non-album cut ‘Death’s Door,’ rare appearances by Fad Gadget (‘Collapsing New People’) and Misfits (‘London Dungeon’), and, as requested last week, a House of Love track that’s not ‘Christine’ (that would be, this week anyway, ‘Destroy the Heart’).

Tonight’s episode of ‘Dark Wave’ — the weekly Sunday night show on Sirius XM’s classic-alternative station 1st Wave — managed a nice selection of lesser-played album cuts from a host of big-name players, including Depeche Mode (‘Sacred’), Siouxsie and the Banshees (‘Night Shift’), Morrissey (‘Disappointed’), The Jesus and Mary Chain (‘Teenage Lust’) and The Cure (‘Disintegration’).

In honor of House of Love guitarist Terry Bickers’ 45th birthday today, we share this ‘Snub TV’ clip from 1989 that features a ripping take on fourth single ‘Destroy the Heart’ and a gentle ‘Man to Child,’ off the band’s 1988 self-titled debut, with an interview with frontman Guy Chadwick sandwiched in between.

Alan McGee’s legendary Creation Records label — home to such ’80s and ’90s Brit luminaries as The Jesus and Mary Chain (shown above), Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, My Bloody Valentine, The House of Love and Oasis — will be the subject of ‘Upside Down,’ a new documentary expected to hit theaters, DVD and television next year.
