Squeeze took time out from their current U.S. tour to drop by “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” last night to deliver a rousing take on their 1980 single ‘Pulling Mussels (From the Shell),’ one of the 14 tracks the band has re-recorded for its forthcoming compilation ‘Spot the Difference.’

Squeeze co-leader Chris Difford is in the midst of releasing his third solo album, ‘Cashmere If You Can,’ piece-by-piece each week through the Saturday Morning Music Club, which delivers multimedia bundles to subscribers’ desktop apps each Saturday.

In this clip recorded for Levi’s ‘Pioneer Sessions,’ James Mercer — leader of The Shins and one-half of Broken Bells — throws down a solo-acoustic cover of Squeeze’s classic ‘Goodbye Girl,’ which also is available as a free download.

Reunited British pop-rockers Squeeze will deliver a new 14-track best-of this summer featuring ‘all their classic hits re-recorded in a way so painstakingly faithful to the originals that they challenge you to spot the difference,’ according to a statement from the band.

New Wave vets from both sides of the pond — Brit pop-rockers Squeeze and New York mainstays Blondie — each will tour the U.S. this summer co-headlining some or all of their dates with long-running rockers Cheap Trick.

This week’s new releases include new albums from David Byrne & Fatboy Slim (‘Here Lies Love,’ about Imelda Marcos) and Robyn Hitchcock (‘Propellor Time’), plus expanded reissues from David Bowie, The Colourfield and Squeeze.
