Sonic Youth will reissue four of its early classics — Confusion is Sex (1983), Bad Moon Rising (1985), EVOL (1986) and Sister (1987) — on 180-gram audiophile vinyl this winter as part of Original Recordings Group’s new “Official and Definitive Sonic Youth Vinyl Series.”

Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore today took to his new blog — Flowers & Cream, which he quietly launched earlier this month — to announce a pair of intriguing musical projects: a new solo album and book, plus a “trio” record with wife/bandmate Kim Gordon and Yoko Ono.

Sonic Youth and The Breeders are among the acts announced today for the third installment of All Tomorrow’s Parties New York, set for Labor Day weekend and already featuring full-album performances by Iggy & The Stooges (Raw Power) and Mudhoney (Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles).

Music fans up north have been treated this month to a new documentary series on Bravo! Canada called “Innovators in Music” that profiles artists from different disciplines, including, next month, legendary noise-rockers Sonic Youth.

Dinosaur Jr guitar slinger J Mascis has teamed up with two members of Cobra Verde and one of his Witch bandmates for a new project: Sweet Apple, which delivers its 12-track debut album, Love & Desperation, on April 20, and is expected to tour later this year.
