To promote this week’s U.K. release of The Smiths’ career-spanning ‘Complete’ box set in CD and digital formats, the U.K. arm of Rhino Records put together this minute-long commercial to advance the “iTunes LP” edition of the set. Check it out.

While initially announced as U.K.-only, Rhino Records has decided to release a limited number of The Smiths’ ‘Complete’ box sets in the U.S. exclusively through Rhino.com. Even better: They’ve given us a copy of the deluxe CD-and-vinyl edition to give away to one very lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs reader.

The folks over at the U.K. arm of Rhino Records continue to dig through the video archive of material by The Smiths, and now they’ve unearthed this 17-minute ‘lost’ documentary about the band, which they believe was commissioned by the label in 1992 in support of the ‘Best…’ compilation.

The U.K. arm of Rhino Records this fall will release ‘The Smiths — Complete,’ a ‘super deluxe collectors’ box set’ that will feature remastered versions of the band’s eight albums on both CD and 180-gram audiophile vinyl, plus all 25 of the group’s singles on individual 7-inches.

The folks over at the U.K. arm of Rhino Records recently discovered this little gem: a clever 1992 advertisement for The Smiths’ 14-track Best… compilation that apparently was shown in British movie theaters.

Rhino Records later this month will re-release the Ramones’ first four albums — ‘Ramones’ (1976), ‘Leave Home’ (1977), ‘Rocket to Russia’ (1977) and ‘Road to Ruin’ (1978) — on 180-gram audiophile vinyl and in special limited-edition sets packaged with bonus 7-inch singles on blue vinyl.

The Jesus and Mary Chain’s six studio albums will be reissued this fall in expanded 2CD/1DVD packages that include B-sides, live sessions, TV appearances and rare material such as rejected early B-side ‘Jesus Fuck’ and a newly discovered recording of ‘Darklands’ with an added string section.

The fine folks at Rhino Records have provided us with a copy of the super-limited 6LP deluxe vinyl edition of Depeche Mode’s forthcoming ‘Remixes 2: 81-11’ set to award to one lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs reader — and copies of the 3CD version for five runners up.

Just days after news broke of the upcoming compilation ‘Total: From Joy Division to New Order,’ the set’s lone unreleased track — a latter-day New Order outtake called ‘Hellbent’ — has leaked after being played on Irish radio.

A new 18-song best-of compilation covering the ‘most important tracks’ by Joy Division and and its successor New Order — titled ‘Total: From Joy Division to New Order’ — will include a previously unreleased New Order song called ‘Hellbent.’

Christmas week is a light one for new releases, with only two notable titles: the digital edition of Duran Duran’s long-awaited ‘All You Need Is Now,’ and a 180-gram vinyl reissue of Ride’s shoegaze classic ‘Nowhere.’

The U.K. arm of Rhino Records next month will celebrate the life and music of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis with a new limited-edition box set collecting 10 newly remastered 7-inch singles by the classic postpunk act.

The surviving members of INXS finally have unveiled the tracklist and release dates for their long-in-the-works ‘Original Sin’ greatest-hits collection, featuring re-recordings of the band’s classics with new vocals by the likes of Ben Harper, Rob Thomas, Tricky and even occasional frontman J.D. Fortune.
