Better known as the half of the Pet Shop Boys that wears hats and stands motionless behind banks of keyboards, Chris Lowe takes a rare vocal turn on a new cover of New Order’s ‘Subculture’ by Finnish DJ/producers Jori Hulkkonen and Alex Nieminen, performing under the name Stop Modernists.

The Pet Shop Boys last week released their latest single ‘Together’ — the lone new song on last year’s U.K. best-of ‘Ultimate’ — in the U.S. for the first time digitally in a number of different configurations.

The Pet Shop Boys’ score to the new ballet adaptation of ‘The Most Incredible Thing’ is out in the U.S. this week, and to mark the occasion, Astralwerks is providing us with a 7-album PSB prize back to award one lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs reader in the United States.

With the Pet Shop Boys’ ballet ‘The Most Incredible Thing’ now in previews — it officially premieres Tuesday at London’s Sadler’s Wells dance house — the duo’s Neil Tennant sat down with the Associated Press to discuss scoring the Hans Christian Andersen adaptation.

This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis and Eleventh Dream Day, plus the Pet Shop Boys’ ballet score, Black Francis’ silent-film score, the monster reissue of Primal Scream’s ‘Screamadelica’ and a new edition of Nick Lowe’s ‘Labour of Lust.’

Pet Shop Boys next month will release a 2CD set featuring their score to the Hans Christian Andersen adaptation ‘The Most Incredible Thing,’ the duo’s first-ever full-length ‘narrative ballet,’ set to debut in London in mid-March.
