Paul Weller returns this September with his 14th solo album, a record called True Meanings that features “lush orchestration” and is being described as the “most singer-songwriter style album he has ever made.” It features guest turns by Rod Argent of the Zombies and Noel Gallagher. Paul Weller’s latest album, A Kind Revolution, has been out for just three months, but the former Jam and Style Council frontman is already dabbling in new musical territory, with the surprise release over the weekend of the three-part Afrobeat-flavored single “Mother Ethiopia.” Stream all three versions here.
The year of The Jam’s birth — 1977, the year punk broke — will be celebrated this fall with a 40th anniversary 5-disc box set, aptly titled 1977, that will include the band’s first two albums, a disc of demos, a collection of Peel session recordings and live tracks, and a DVD of TV appearances. With his 13th solo album, A Kind Revolution, due out Friday, Paul Weller today announced a 20-date North American tour this October to support the record — an unusually extensive trek for the former Jam frontman, whose U.S. tours in recent years have only hit a few major cities.
