Well, here we are — the end of another calendar year, and time to see what folks have been reading on Slicing Up Eyeballs over the past 12 months. The verdict? A lot of Nirvana, U2, Pixies, Joy Division and The Cure, each of which scored multiple headlines in the year’s Top 20 list.

Today we roll out the second of four days’ worth of results from our second-annual Slicing Up Eyeballs Readers Poll, in which nearly 500 of you cast ballots for your favorite new, reissued and freshly compiled music of the year. This time, it’s your Top 10 reissues of the year.

Joey Santiago tells Slicing Up Eyeballs that the Pixies have discussed making a new record, but that notion remains in the ‘chit-chat phase.’ The guitarist, however, is all for it: ‘I’d like to give it a shot, just to see what we’d come out with. Certainly, we don’t have to put it out if it sucks.’

This week’s new releases include the U.K. CD-only version of The Smiths ‘Complete’ box set, reissues of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s ‘Automatic’ and ‘Honey’s Dead,’ the 20th anniversary reissue of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind,’ the new single from Erasure and a new album from The Bangles (‘Sweetheart of the Sun’).

With its release now less than a week away, Sonic Youth has issued a short, two-minute trailer for the long-overdue DVD release of ‘1991: The Year Punk Broke,’ the concert film that chronicled the band’s tour of Europe that year with opening act Nirvana.

With the 20th anniversary re-release of Nirvana’s genre-shifting ‘Nevermind’ now due in less than a month, Universal Music has released a 1:18-long trailer advertising the 4CD/1DVD ‘super deluxe edition’ of the 1991 album as well as the ‘Live at the Paramount’ concert film.
