The Jesus and Mary Chain today announced a 9-date North American tour this May to support the release of their first new album in 18 years, Damage and Joy, which will be released on digital, CD, vinyl and cassette on March 24 via ADA/Warner Music. Produced by Killing Joke’s Youth, the album is JAMC’s first since 1998’s Munki.
The Jesus and Mary Chain are still more than a month away from the release of their first new record in 18 years, but the band has now released a second single to whet fans’ appetites: “Always Sad,” a three-minute slice of ’60s-styled pop featuring guest vocalist Bernadette Denning singing along with Jim Reid.
While The Jesus and Mary Chain are busy this year looking back on their debut Psychocandy as it marks its 30th anniversary, frontman Jim Reid is also looking forward, vowing to complete the new album that he and his brother William have been working on since reuniting in 2007.
This week’s new releases include the brand-new studio album from Morrissey (‘World Peace is None of Your Business’) as well as vinyl reissues from Cocteau Twins, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized, plus the digital release of the classic Talking Heads concert film ‘Stop Making Sense.’
Demon Music Group will mark the 30th anniversary of The Jesus and Mary Chain with The Complete Vinyl Collection, a deluxe box set featuring 11 LPs that includes all six of the band’s studio albums, plus a 2LP set of BBC sessions, a live album and a “fan-selected B-sides and rarities LP.”
This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Erasure (‘Tomorrow’s World’) and Pop Will Eat Itself (‘New Noise Designed by a Sadist’), plus vinyl reissues of Dinosaur Jr’s first three albums, the U.K. vinyl-only and CD-and-vinyl editions of The Smiths’ ‘Complete’ box set and the final two Jesus and Mary Chain reissues.
With the first two titles of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s 2CD/1DVD reissue series — 1985′s ‘Psychocandy’ and 1987′s ‘Darklands’ — now out, Demon Music Group today released the final two trailers for the project, previews of 1994′s ‘Stoned & Dethroned’ and 1998′s ‘Munki,’ which will be released Oct. 3.
