Morrissey’s year of medical maladies continues, with the former Smiths frontman today announcing that he was treated and discharged from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for a concussion (his second in a year), whiplash and an arm injury — although Moz didn’t bother to explain what happened to him.

Morrissey may have bemoaned he had no U.S. publisher for his just-released autobiography — cleverly titled “Autobiography” — but that’s no longer the case. The singer announced today that G.P. Putnam’s Sons, a division of his U.K. publisher Penguin, will put the best-seller out in the U.S. on Dec. 3.

This week’s new releases include box sets devoted to Tears For Fears and Waterboys albums, plus a new Morrissey concert film, a reissue of Billy Bragg’s debut, a box set collecting six Boomtown Rats albums, an audiophile CD pressing from the Pixies and live sets from The Mission and The Wedding Present.

Morrissey long has been coy about his sexuality, which is why the publication of his autobiography this past week generated a flurry of headlines about its revelation of a relationship with another man during the 1990s — reports that apparently have led the former Smiths frontman to proclaim he’s not gay, but, rather, “humasexual.”

There was much consternation last month when This Charming Charlie, the Tumblr that so brilliantly mashes up panels from old “Peanuts” comic strips with The Smiths lyrics, announced it had received demands from Universal Music Publishing Group that it take down posts over unauthorized use of the band’s lyrics.

After much handwringing, it’s official: Morrissey’s autobiography — cleverly titled “Autobiography” — will be published Oct. 17 in the U.K. and Europe by Penguin Classics, the publisher has confirmed, announcing that the 480-page paperback will cover the singer’s “life from his birth until the present day.”

Morrissey’s long-in-the-works autobiography — titled, appropriately, “Autobiography” — was set to be published next week, but the singer claims a last-minute and heretofore unexplained “content disagreement” with Penguin Classics “has caused the venture to collapse,” leaving the former Smiths frontman in search of a new publisher.
