Rain Parade, one of the leading lights of the Paisley Underground scene in 1980s Los Angeles, this spring will release Last Rays of a Dying Sun.

David Roback, who helped create the neo-psychedelic Paisley Underground scene of the 1980s through his bands The Rain Parade and Opal before gaining his greatest acclaim alongside Hope Sandoval in Mazzy Star, died Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported. More details right here.

Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis returned to “Late Night With Seth Meyers” last night to promote his latest album, Tied to a Star, performing the single “Every Morning” on air, and then sticking around for a web-only cover of Mazzy Star’s 1993 hit “Fade Into You.”

The 2014 installment of Record Store Day finally is upon us, and one of the scores of acts participating in this year’s extravaganza is the recently reunited Mazzy Star, who today release a limited-edition “Coke-bottle” clear vinyl 7-inch featuring two previously unreleased tracks: “I’m Less Here” and “Things.”

Mazzy Star dropped by “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night to promote its comeback album Seasons of Your Day with its first television performance in nearly two decades. The group, shrouded in darkness, performed lead single “California,” which you can watch here.

This week’s new releases include a 20th anniversary reissue of Nirvana’s ‘In Utero,’ the first new album from Mazzy Star in 17 years, new records from New Model Army, The MIssion and Peter Buck’s Tired Pony, plus a live Bryan Ferry DVD, a Waitresses compilation and more.
