The Cult’s Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Death Cult with a special one-off U.S. performance in Los Angeles this fall followed by a dozen dates in the U.K. and Ireland.

Cherry Red Records this summer will release a new nine-disc deluxe box set compiling the five albums Aztec Camera released on WEA between 1984 and 1995 as well as four discs of singles, B-sides, live material, remixes and vinyl-only rarities. Full details and tracklist right here.

Johnny Marr has been known to invite his lifelong friend Billy Duffy onstage during his solo shows, and a few nights ago in Manchester, The Cult guitarist returned the favor, bringing the ex-Smiths guitarist out in Manchester to play “Rain,” off his band’s 1985 album Love. As we reported last month, The Cult is reissuing its third album Electric in an expanded set paired with Peace — the aborted Love follow-up the band abandoned in favor of the Rick Rubin-produced hard-rock album — and Beggars Archive has now confirmed that the release, Electric Peace, is now due out next month.

The Cult today announced that it will perform its third album Electric on tour in the U.S. and U.K. this year as news also emerged that the 1987 hard-rock record will receive an expanded reissue that pairs it with Peace, the follow-up to Love the band ultimately abandoned in favor of recording Electric with producer Rick Rubin.

The Cult have been teasing fans the last couple days via social media that they plan to announce a new tour called “Electric 13” on Monday — a trek that presumably will find Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy revisiting their 1987 hard-rock turn Electric on stage each night. The tour is poised to come to the U.S. and U.K.

This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Pet Shop Boys, David Byrne and St. Vincent and Tom Tom Club, plus reissues from The Stone Roses and Aztec Camera, a live CD/DVD of The English Beat’s US Festival performances, and best-ofs from Duran Duran and Propaganda.
