Record Rack: A round-up of the week’s new albums, expanded reissues and/or box sets, appearing each Monday on Slicing Up Eyeballs. All releases due out this Friday unless noted. This week’s titles include releases from former Thompson Twins frontman Tom Bailey and Kim Gordon’s post-Sonic Youth project Body/Head.

There’d been much speculation about who, if anyone, would fill in for the late Kurt Cobain should Nirvana choose to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Last night, the surviving members of the band drafted a quartet of women to do that job.

Fans of Sonic Youth may still be struggling to get over the presumed end of the legendary noise-rock band, but there is good news ahead: The band’s four members all will be on tour in the U.S. this fall — albeit separately, for the most part — and three of the four have new music due out later this year.

Tonight’s “Saturday Night Live” season finale was notable for its final appearances by a number of soon-to-be-former castmembers, including, in all likelihood, Fred Armisen, who reprised his Ian Rubbish punk character with a live band that included Kim Gordon, Steve Jones, J Mascis, Carrie Brownstein, Aimee Mann and more.

Siouxsie will return to the concert stage this summer after a five-year absence to perform at the Yoko Ono-curated Meltdown festival at London’s Southbank Centre, an event that also will feature sets by Patti Smith, Iggy & The Stooges, Boy George, and both Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore.

Last night at New York City’s Terminal 5, the reunited Dinosaur Jr celebrated the 25th anniversary of You’re Living All Over Me by playing the 1987 album in its entirety and then enlisting members of The Smiths, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Replacements and The Melvins to help blast through a second, career-spanning set.

This week’s new releases include expanded reissues of albums from R.E.M. (‘Document’), Sex Pistols (‘Never Mind the Bollocks’), INXS (‘Kick’) and Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, plus new music from Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, with Yoko Ono, and Mark Eitzel, John Foxx and The Cure’s Robert Smith.
