Public Image Ltd. is working on a “comprehensive, career-spanning” documentary about itself, and is turning to fans to help track down “never before seen” photographs as well as rare film and video footage of John Lydon and Co. from any time period of the group’s career.
On this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we bring you one of John Lydon’s many infamous appearances on the program. Here’s 9 minutes of footage from a 1987 spot on “120 Minutes,” as the Public Image Ltd. frontman’s ‘s wry personality comes into sharp contrast with Kevin Seal’s absurdist take on hosting.
John Lydon’s resurrected Public Image Ltd. went Down Under last month for a tour of Australia in support of last year’s comeback album This Is PiL, and the folks at Moshcam have been so kind as to post a full two-hour show filmed April 11 in Sydney. Check out the full set right here.
Public Image Ltd. will follow up this month’s Record Store Day reissue of debut 7-inch “Public Image” later this year with the band’s first-ever U.S. release of debut album ‘First Issue,’ which will be released in expanded 2CD and single-LP vinyl editions with “various bonus material.”
For this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we flash back to 1992 for a walk through Tijuana, Mexico, with John Lydon and host Dave Kendall. This appears to actually be an MTV news piece, likely repackaged from segments produced for a July 1992 episode of “120 Minutes” that featured the Public Image Ltd. frontman as co-host.
Public Image Ltd. brought its U.S. tour to Minneapolis tonight, and before John Lydon and Co. played their headlining date, the band stopped by the studios of The Current to record a three-song session. Public Image Ltd. has become the latest U.K. act to run afoul of U.S. immigration, announcing this morning that it has been forced to cancel tonight’s tour opener in Orlando, Fla., due to “unforeseen visa problems.” John Lydon and Co. pledge “the rest of the tour will continue as planned.”
