Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore dropped by ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ last night to play a couple songs off his new solo album ‘Demolished Thoughts.’ Check out ‘Circulation’ and the web-only ‘Blood Never Lies.’

This week’s new releases include an audiophile vinyl reissue of ‘Copper Blue,’ the debut from Bob Mould’s post-Husker Du power trio; The Japanese Popstars’ ‘Controlling Your Allegiance,’ featuring the single ‘Take Forever’ with The Cure’s Robert Smith; and a 2CD reissue of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘Liverpool.’

Filmmaker Brad Katz is appealing to music fans to help fund his documentary ‘Just Gimme Indie Rock! The Story of an Underground Uprising,’ a film project he describes as ‘an epic trilogy that spans a generation’ — tracing the rise of the independent label scene in the early ’80s through the alternative explosion of the ’90s and into indie resurgence of the 2000s.

With his autobiography ‘See A Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody’ due out next month, Bob Mould is gearing up for a busy summer that will include a book tour, dates with his Blowoff DJ side project, an opening slot at two giant Foo Fighters shows in the U.K. and the reissue of Sugar’s classic debut ‘Copper Blue’ on audiophile vinyl.

The long-in-the-works documentary about The Replacements and their rabid fans — a film dubbed, appropriately, ‘Color Me Obsessed’ — finally is finished and will make its world premiere later this month at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Fla.

The long-in-the-works autobiography by Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould — titled ‘See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody’ — is scheduled to be published June 15 by Little, Brown and Company.

Peter Buck is no stranger to jumping on stage for a good jam, so when former Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould swung through Athens, Ga., on July 25, 1990, in support of ‘Black Sheets of Rain,’ the R.E.M. guitarist pitched in on a crunchy cover of Neil Young’s classic-rock staple ‘Cinnamon Girl.’

Former Hüsker Dü drummer, songwriter and co-vocalist Grant Hart will embark on a short tour of the mid-Atlantic and southeastern regions of the U.S. next month in support of the reissue of the long-out-of-print ‘The Last Days of Pompeii,’ the 1991 debut from his post-Hüskers project Nova Mob.

Bob Mould’s turning 50 today, so to celebrate, here’s a clip of Sugar — whose debut, ‘Copper Blue,’ is arguably the former Husker Du leader’s finest moment — playing ‘Helpless’ on the BBC in 1993.

As it marks its own 25th anniversary this year, Spin magazine has churned out a list of the 125 best albums of the past quarter century — an honor roll topped by U2’s 1991 left turn ‘Achtung Baby,’ a record the mag says ‘genetically engineer(ed) rock music into the hybridized mutant we know today.’
