Record Rack: A round-up of the week’s new albums, expanded reissues and/or box sets, appearing each Monday on Slicing Up Eyeballs. All releases due out this Friday unless noted. This week’s releases include titles from Johnny Marr, Peter Buck, The English Beat, The Sisters of Mercy and King Blank.
For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we present an early U.S. performance by The Sisters of Mercy in the form of this full 50-minute set filmed at Chicago’s Exit Club on April 15, 1984. The show comes nearly a year before the release of the Sisters’ debut album First and Last and Always.
Just two new releases on the radar this week: The Sisters of Mercy’s ‘First and Last and Always’ is reissued by Mobile Fidelity on audiophile vinyl, and The Icicle Works’ ‘Blind’ is reissued in a 3CD set by Cherry Red.
The enigmatic Andrew Eldritch will take Doktor Avalanche and the rest of the current incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy back out on the road early next year for what’s being billed as a 30th anniversary tour, with dates announced so far in the U.K. and Europe in February and March.
