Fire Records this fall will release a box set — or, rather, a “bookback” set, as the label’s dubbed it — called The Wasted Years that will collect the first four studio albums by The Jazz Butcher, the long-running U.K. indie-pop outfit helmed by Pat Fish. The Chills this week christen their new “special ongoing partnership” with Fire Records with their first release on the label: a gorgeous live album called Somewhere Beautiful that was recorded on New Year’s Eve 2011 and is being released this week on CD, digitally and as a deluxe 3LP vinyl pressing.

Last week, Fire Records announced a “special ongoing partnership” with New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills that it headlined “The Past, The Present, The Future.” Now, as bandleader Martin Phillipps celebrates his 50th birthday this week, the label has premiered the band’s first new music in nine years: “Molten Gold.”

Former Miracle Legion frontman Mark Mulcahy returns this summer with Dear Mark J Mulcahy I Love You, his fifth solo album and first 2005’s In Pursuit of Your Happiness — and he’s previewing the Fire Records release with the brand-new song “She Makes the World Turn Backwards.”

The U.K.’s Fire Records next month will release a new 2CD career-spanning overview of resurrected Boston post-punk legends Mission of Burma, compiling 29 tracks from both halves of the band’s career to serve both as an introduction and a preface to the label’s upcoming full-catalog reissue series.

Boston post-punk legends Mission of Burma will release Unsound — their fifth studio album and fourth post-reunion effort — next Tuesday, but the folks at Fire Records are launching the record early on Spotify.
