David Byrne returned to “Saturday Night Live” last night for his third appearance in four decades, performing the Talking Heads classic “Once in a Lifetime” and the far more obscure cut “Toe Jam,” which he recorded in 2008 with Fatboy Slim’s The Brighton Port Authority project. When The Housemartins split in 1988, the band vowed never to reunite. That remains as true, according to bassist Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, who this morning told a BBC radio interviewer that it would take an equally unlikely reunion of The Smiths to spur his bandmates into action.
