Admittedly, The Cure’s ‘Disintegration: Deluxe Edition’ may be a bit much for casual fans — particularly wading through so many instrumental demos — but to anyone who has spent the past 21 years exploring the depths of this album, the new reissue is a marvel to hear.

This week’s new releases include The Cure’s ‘Disintegration: Deluxe Edition’ (CD and vinyl in Europe, iTunes in the U.S.), Modern English’s first new album in 14 years, a 2CD reissue of Marc Almond’s ‘Open All Night’ and The Wonder Stuff’s re-recording of ‘Hup.’

The fine folks at Rhino Records are providing us with five ‘Disintegration: Deluxe Edition’ prize packs to give away to our readers to help the label celebrate the upcoming expanded reissue of The Cure’s 1989 masterpiece.

Last week’s goldmine of ‘Disintegration’-era demos and live tracks wasn’t the first time Robert Smith opened up The Cure’s archives online; in 2001, to mark the release of ‘Greatest Hits,’ he also posted 20 demos, live tracks and remixes, spanning the band’s entire career.

The Cure today launched a special standalone website dedicated to the upcoming ‘Disintegration: Deluxe Edition’ that features videos, liner notes and photos — plus streaming audio of 20 additional demos and live tracks that won’t be on the 3CD set when it arrives June 8.

Next month’s deluxe 3CD reissue of The Cure’s 1989 classic ‘Disintegration’ is now available for pre-order from Rhino.com — and the first 500 people to order will receive a free nine-track promo sampler that’ll be mailed out before the reissue’s June 8 release date.

The highlights of tonight’s ‘Dark Wave’ on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave include a couple album cuts off The Cure’s ‘Disintegration,’ a Tones on Tail song that’s not ‘Go!,’ Shriekback’s excellent ‘My Spine Is the Bassline’ and Wax Trax! industrial act Braindead Soundmachine’s cover of Patsy Cline’s ‘Walkin’ After Midnight.’
