The 8-Bit Operators collective next month follows up its tributes to Kraftwerk, Devo and The Beatles with a new collection of chiptune covers of Depeche Mode classics, a 15-track collection featuring “highly musical, lo-bit video-game hardware re-imaginings” of some of the band’s best-known songs from the past 30 years.
This week’s new releases include a brand-new studio album from Echo & The Bunnymen (‘Meteorites’), plus audiophile vinyl reissues from Depeche Mode, a new They Might Be Giants compilation, a 7 Seconds studio record, two Suzanne Vega reissues and a new compilation of Factory Records acts.
This week’s new releases include a second batch of 180-gram audiophile vinyl Depeche Mode reissues, plus an 11-disc box set from The Stranglers, an expanded reissue of Aztec Camera’s debut ‘High Land, Hard Rain,’ and heavyweight vinyl reissues of all six albums by The Jam.
Depeche Mode marked the anniversary this week of the release of its massive Violator album with a new Archives Special devoted to the band’s infamous record-signing session at The Wherehouse record store in Los Angeles on March 20, 1990 — an event that drew 10,000 fans.
Depeche Mode announced this weekend that it will embark on another full-catalog vinyl reissue campaign this year, this time re-releasing each of the band’s studio albums on 180-gram platters, beginning this week with Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses and Songs of Faith and Devotion.
