Back on Dec. 19, visitors to New York City’s Museum of Modern Art witnessed a surprise ‘walk-in concert’ by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe and Patti Smith as part of the museum’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of French political activist and writer Jean Genet.

Twisted troubadour Robyn Hitchcock is opening his vaults slightly to fans, this week posting a streaming collection of a dozen covers — recorded both live and in the studio recently — of songs by David Bowie, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, the Grateful Dead and Nick Drake.

Back in August, we posted four high-quality video clips that had just surfaced from the 1995 co-headlining tour by David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails — and today we’ve learned that the filmmaker who put those fantastic clips together has uploaded a 40-minute rough cut of additional footage.

This week’s new releases include ‘Who We Touch,’ the 11th album from The Charlatans; ‘The Morning After,’ a new mini-album from James; a David Bowie tribute album featuring Duran Duran and Mick Karn; and reissues from Madness and Flesh for Lulu’s Nick Marsh.

Superb pro-shot video has emerged for the first time of the 1995 joint David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails tour. Watch Bowie and NIN perform ‘Hurt’ and ‘Hallo Spaceboy’ together, and ‘The Heart’s Filthy Lesson’ and ‘Wish’ apart.
