This week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind is short and sweet, but it’s a great historical footnote for fans of the MTV Sunday night classic. As you can see in this segment, host Dave Kendall is broadcasting from a Robyn Hitchcock show in New York when he asks a fan in the crowd whether he’s looking forward to the gig.

Seeing as today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the Pixies’ ‘Come On Pilgrim,’ we’ll use this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind to spotlight the band with this 10-part, 25-minute playlist that highlights the interview segments and performances from the 1991 episode the band co-hosted with Dave Kendall.

For this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we turn to some newly uploaded clips — via dpallen — of the legendary Lou Reed hosting an episode some time in 1986. Check out a 7-minute clip of a very prickly Reed grilling Mark Josephson, co-director of the New Music Seminar and shorter clips of the rocker chatting with Suzanne Vega.

For this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we present a somewhat odd pairing: Downtown Julie Brown — better known for hosting “Club MTV” than her occasional Sunday night stints — running through a “120 Minutes X-Ray” segment on U.K. post-punk act The Lucy Show on the Jan. 25, 1987, episode.

This fall, Miles Copeland will bring MTV’s beloved “120 Minutes” precursor “I.R.S. Records Presents The Cutting Edge” to DVD with a new compilation featuring “the absolute highlights and rare moments” from the show, featuring appearances by the likes of R.E.M., Hüsker Dü, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robyn Hitchcock and more.

For this week’s installment of “120 Minutes” Rewind, we take a look at one of the early shows via this seven-and-a-half-minute reel of Alan Hunter’s hosting segments from the episode that aired on Sept. 28, 1986. The opening features a skit of sorts with Dave Kendall prepping Hunter for the night’s broadcast.
