The Fourth of July isn’t just the anniversary of this nation’s birth, it’s also the day now recognized as marking the break-up of perhaps the greatest of all the ’80s college-rock acts: The Replacements, who performed their final concert exactly 20 years ago today in Chicago’s Grant Park.

It’s a great year for Peter Murphy fans, with new album ‘Ninth’ in stores and a Dalis Car sequel on the horizon — and now comes an expanded 25th anniversary reissue of the former Bauhaus leader’s solo debut ‘Should the World Fail to Fall Apart,’ complete with an unreleased mix of the title track.

Back in April as Wire toured the U.S. in support of its new album ‘Red Barked Tree,’ the U.K. post-punk legends dropped by the studios of Seattle radio station KEXP to perform ‘Clay,’ ‘Bad Worn Thing’ and ‘Moreover’ from the new album, plus 1988 favorite ‘Kidney Bingos.’

Leave it to Morrissey to attack his own fans: At a gig Monday night in Bradford, England, the former Smiths frontman and his band took the stage for an encore of ‘This Charming Man’ wearing matching black T-shirts emblazoned with an all-caps declaration, ‘FUCK MORRISSEY-SOLO.COM.’

While neither band has formally announced the trek, The Psychedelic Furs — hot off this summer’s 30th anniversary ‘Talk Talk Talk’ dates — have enlisted New Wave contemporaries Tom Tom Club for what appears to be at least a three-week tour of the United States this fall.
