This week’s Slicing Up Eyeballs Music Hour featured brand-new music from the Pixies, plus old favorites from Peter Gabriel, The Stone Roses, Devo, Max Q, The Ocean Blue, Midge Ure, The Replacements, Echo & The Bunnymen and more.

It’s the first of the month, which means it’s time to unveil the results of Part 5 of our year-long Best of the ’80s feature, a year-by-year poll of Slicing Up Eyeballs’ readers to determine the best albums of each year of the 1980s — and then, when that’s wrapped up at the end of 2013, we’ll run a best-of-the-decade poll.

The Suburbs — contemporaries of The Replacements and Hüsker Dü in the first half of the ’80s who, more recently, have seen their song “Love is the Law” adopted as the theme for the gay marriage movement in Minnesota — are recording their first new album in 27 years and are asking fans to help fund the project.

The Pixies today followed up last week’s free release of a surprise new track with more revelations, namely that the band is about to embark on a “massive global tour” to debut material off its follow-up to 1991’s Trompe le Monde with The Muffs frontwoman Kim Shattuck replacing the departed Kim Deal.

This week’s new releases include reissues from Microdisney (‘Love Your Enemies,’ ‘The Clock Comes Down The Stairs’), New Model Army (a repackaged 2003 live set) and A Certain Ratio (I’d Like To See You Again’), plus new best-ofs from Visage and The Proclaimers.

Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured music from My Bloody Valentine, Skinny Puppy, The Fatima Mansions, Death in June, New Order, Concrete Blonde, A Certain Ratio, Daniel Ash, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, The Sisters of Mercy, Kate Bush and much, much more.
