We’re not quite into October yet, but we’re going to ahead and unveil the results of Part 8 of our year-long Best of the ’80s feature, a year-by-year poll of Slicing Up Eyeballs’ readers to determine the best albums of each year of the 1980s — and then, at the end of 2013, we’ll run a best-of-the-decade poll.
October sees the release of a new 7-inch picture disc commemorating the 40th anniversary of David Bowie’s single “Sorrow” — a cover of a 1965 song by The McCoys that became a hit when The Merseys recorded it the following year — and we’ve got copies to give away to 5 lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs readers.
With a lengthy tour of the U.K. and Ireland opening tonight — to be followed by a very brief trip to the U.S. in November — former Yazoo frontwoman Alison Moyet today debuted the music video for “Changeling,” the third single off the electronic-infused album the minutes that she released earlier this year.
The Pet Shop Boys won’t release the next single off their new album Electric until November — “Thursday,” featuring the rapper Example — but they went ahead and debuted the track’s music video, which features a giant Neil Tennant projected onto the sides of buildings.
This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from New Model Army and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, a box set of live recordings from Cabaret Voltaire, a “lost” album from The Bongos that was recorded in 1986 but never finished or released, and a reissue of a 1997 album from ABC.
Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured new music from Gary Numan and New Model Army, plus classics and favorites by Cassandra Complex, David J, The Gun Club, Bauhaus, Front 242, Cranes, Gene Loves Jezebel, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and much, much more.
