The year’s not quite over yet, which means we’ve still got time to drop in the results of the Slicing Up Eyeballs readers poll to determine the best albums and reissues/box sets/compilations of this past year — think of this as a minor detour before we wrap up the giant Best of the ’80s poll, coming next week.

As we first mentioned last month, Paul Westerberg’s post-Replacements solo debut —1993’s 14 Songs, featuring alt-rock radio hit “World Class Fad” — will receive its first-ever vinyl release next year in an 180-gram pressing similar to the previously announced release of his 1996 follow-up album Eventually.

Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” — the Sunday night celebration of the “darker side of classic alternative” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave — featured music from Belfegore, Skinny Puppy, Wire, The Sisters of Mercy, Fad Gadget, Ski Patrol, Peter Murphy, The Cure, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, KMFDM and more.

previously unreleased and apparently never-completed 5-minute-long Talking Heads instrumental called “Theme” has surfaced online via a recording of the first of the band’s two sets opening for a pair of performances by Television at CBGB’s on the night of July 30, 1976.

This week’s Slicing Up Eyeballs Music Hour featured all Christmas music, from the likes of The Pogues, Al Jourgensen, U2, The Smithereens, R.E.M., Miracle Legion, Kate Bush, Ramones, Husker Du, Cocteau Twins, The Fall, Squeeze, X, The Pretenders and more.
