Robyn Hitchcock this August will release a brand-new, Joe Boyd-produced album titled The Man Upstairs that will be “part well-known favorites, part personal discoveries, and part originals,” according to Yep Roc Records. The first offering off the record is an acoustic take on the Psychedelic Furs’ classic “The Ghost in You.”

As we promised last week, we’re thrilled to be able to premiere the full-album, pre-release stream of the 8-Bit Operators collective’s new collection of chiptune covers of Depeche Mode classics — a 15-track collection of “highly musical, lo-bit video-game hardware re-imaginings.”

Morrissey has announced, through his customary outlet, the quasi-official fansite True To You, that his 30-year publishing deal with Warner-Chappell Music “has come to an end” — and that he’s now shopping his solo catalog and The Smiths’ catalog to any new publishers that might be interested.

This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from Bob Mould, Peter Murphy, Echo & The Bunnymen, Camper Van Beethoven and James, plus reissues from Morrissey and Soundgarden, and a new latter-period best-of from Paul Weller.

Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave paid tribute to Soiuxsie Sioux following her birthday this past week, and also featured music by Wire, David J, 1919, Au Pairs, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Magazine, Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire and more.

The massive touring production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice classic “Jesus Christ Superstar” that was to have starred Sex Pistols/Public Image Ltd. frontman John Lydon and hit 54 cities across North America this summer has been canceled less than two weeks before it was slated to open.

It’s well-documented that The Cure likes to play long, even in festival settings. Friday night, the band headlined the BottleRock Festival in Napa Valley, Calif., where they were given a two-and-a-half hour time slot… which apparently wasn’t enough.
