The Waterboys have a long history of covering Prince’s epic “Purple Rain” in concert, and here’s another great take on that classic: Mike Scott and Co. on Friday performed a stripped-down cover of the song live on the air during the BBC’s “Chris Evans Breakfast Show” — which you can watch in full here.

Last night, BBC Four aired a 2013 documentary on German electronic-music legends Kraftwerk that includes footage of the group’s album-by-album residency at London’s Tate Modern that same year, as well as new interviews with the band along with rare and archival clips.

For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we present a full 50-minute MTV broadcast from 1986 that finds Gene Loves Jezebel — back when there was only one incarnation of the band — performing at The Ritz in New York City circa the release of the band’s third album, Discover.

Last year, Daniel Ash embarked on a crowdfunded recording project to remake songs from his back catalog in new, stripped-down arrangements. The resulting album, Stripped, features re-recordings of some of his favorite tracks — and we’ve now got CD copies to give away to four lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs readers.
