Cutting it a bit close this month, but, hey, that’s tradition around here at Slicing Up Eyeballs. Nevertheless, we’re back with the May installment of the ever-popular Auto Reverse mixtape series — and it’s one of our occasional themed installments, no less. This month’s tape is all Manchester acts.

The unstoppable Mark E. Smith returns this summer with his 32nd studio album under The Fall moniker, an 11-track collection called New Facts Emerge that features a slightly stripped-down lineup of the legendary and oft-changing Manchester band.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark today premiered the first official single off their upcoming album The Punishment of Luxury, a soaring, classic-sounding single called “Isotype” that will be released digitally tomorrow and will be released on 12-inch vinyl as well.

For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we once again trawl the archives of the East German TV show “Rockpalast” for this 70-minute performance by famed West German industrial act Einstürzende Neubauten that was filmed in 1990, just a few months after German reunification.
