Robert Smith led the current incarnation of alt-rock titans The Cure through a greatest-hits set tonight filled with big singles, fan favorites and a couple rarer cuts as he celebrated the band’s 40-year career with a huge outdoor festival in London’s Hyde Park. Elvis Costello today revealed he underwent surgery six weeks ago for a “very aggressive cancerous malignancy,” and while the procedure went well, he’s canceling the remainder of his European tour — beginning with tonight’s show in Manchester — as he continues to recover.
