We’re not entirely sure what prompted this, but Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis this week dropped an excellent cover of the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers classic “Don’t Do Me Like That,” which finds the guitarist eschewing the softer acoustic side he usually displays on solo material. Hear it here.
Ministry performed the first of six special Record Store Day-related sets in Chicago on Saturday night, with frontman Al Jourgensen enlisting old bandmate Chris Connelly to help perform what was billed as a “Wax Trax!-era” set that largely focused on the band’s late-’80s, early-’90s albums. Morrissey’s Canadian tour that was to have started Sunday night in Vancouver is on the rocks after at least the first two concerts — if not most of the trek — have been rescheduled for October “due to a medical emergency stemming from an accident incurred while traveling in Europe.” Full details here.
Party-rock favorites The B-52s are headed out on a 40th anniversary tour of North America this summer, and they’ve enlisted contemporaries Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Berlin to open the tour. OMD also will be playing four headline shows in the U.S. during a tour break. Full dates here.
