The Wedding Present’s 2005 tour of North America in support of that year’s ‘Take Fountain’ album is the subject of a new 139-minute concert film called ‘Drive’ that will be released on DVD in the U.S. next week and in the U.K. later this year.

The members of R.E.M. have made no secret about how influenced they were by The Feelies’ 1980 debut ‘Crazy Rhythms,’ and in this May clip, we see the reunited band salute their admirers with a high-energy run through ‘Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars)’ off 1982′s ‘Chronic Town’ EP.

Twenty years ago today, the Perry Farrell-spawned Lollapalooza festival — which, in retrospect, joins Nevermind as perhaps the best historical encapsulation of ‘the year punk broke’ — made its debut in the sun-baked Arizona desert with performances by Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Jane’s Addiction.

And Sonic Youth is headed to South America and is re-issuing ‘Hits Are For Squares.’

With little fanfare last month, the reunited original lineup of Big Audio Dynamite debuted its first new song in 21 years at a gig in Bournemouth, England — a mid-tempo rocker called ‘Rob Peter Pay Paul’ that the band reprised the next day during its performance at the mammoth Glastonbury festival.

The News of the World scandal that’s currently rocking England has led outspoken folkie Billy Bragg to pick up his guitar and quickly pen a scathing new tune that he’s now giving away for free: ‘Never Buy the Sun,’ which he labels ‘an outspoken attack on press, police and politicians.’

Today we commemorate the birthday of Peter Murphy — he’s 54 — by turning the clock back to the Bauhaus era and presenting “Shadow of Light,” a 40-minute film released on VHS in 1984 that includes live performances mixed in with music videos.
