Robert Smith called into Sirius XM this week to chat about The Cure’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, and, along the way, revealed that work is nearing completion on the band’s first new album since 2008 and a Tim Pope-shot film of the group’s huge 40th anniversary concert in London.
Synth-rock legends New Order will return to the U.S. in mid-January for a concert in Miami, the band announced this weekend, though it’s not known whether the performance will be part of a broader American tour or a one-off concert on the way back from a Chilean make-up date. New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills will embark on their first U.S. tour in 23 years next spring as they play 14 concerts in support of their new album Snow Bound in the lead-up to an appearance at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. See full dates right here.
After taking the last year off, the reformed Midnight Oil will head back out on the road in 2019, announcing Monday a run of 11 dates in the U.K., Ireland and Europe next summer along with a July festival appearance in the band’s native Australia. Full dates posted right here.
Vanessa Briscoe Hay’s Pylon Reenactment Society — the band the Pylon frontwoman put together following the death in 2009 of guitarist Randy Bewley — next week will release its first original music in the form of a two-song single to be issued digitally and on 7-inch vinyl. Saying he’s “looking forward to running through my back pages,” Billy Bragg has announced a 2019 tour of the U.S. that will see him performing three nights in each city, performing his current set the first night, then two shows that focus on clusters of his early albums.
