Rhino Records this fall will release a 6-disc expanded reissue of Lou Reed’s 1989 solo triumph New York, a collection that will include previously unreleased studio material, a full live reproduction of the record, a DVD and a double-vinyl pressing of the album. Fire Records has just reissued The Chills’ second and third albums — 1990’s major-label debut Submarine Bells and its follow-up, 1992’s Soft Bomb — on vinyl with newly remastered sound, pressings that are available now via the label but not until November in record stores. Full details right here.
The Replacements’ Pleased To Meet Me gets the box set treatment this fall when Rhino Records releases a 3CD/1LP edition of the band’s fifth album stuffed with 29 previously unreleased demos, rough mixes and outtakes — including Bob Stinson’s final recordings with the ‘Mats. The 4AD label this summer will mark the 30th anniversary of the release of the Pixies’ third album, Bossanova, with a new pressing on red vinyl that includes the original 16-page booklet that previously only was included with the original U.K. vinyl release. Full details right here.
Rhino Records will release a new 40th anniversary edition of Joy Division’s second album Closer, a new pressing on clear vinyl that will be issued alongside new vinyl pressings of three of the band’s iconic non-album singles. Plus, the former members of Joy Division are marking the anniversary of Ian Curtis’s death today.
The 4AD label next month will release remastered editions of the Cocteau Twins’ first and fourth studio albums — 1982’s Garlands and 1986’s Victorialand — on 140-gram black vinyl, completing the effort to put all of the band’s studio albums back in print on vinyl. Details right here.
Simple Minds continues its deluxe reissue series this March with an expanded, multi-format re-release of its 1989 studio album Street Fighting Years, including a 4-disc CD box set that includes B-sides and remixes, plua a live album recorded in Verona, Italy. Full tracklist right here.
