Erasure this week announced their first U.S. performance of 2011, a slot at the Ultra Music Festival, the wildly popular electronic bash that takes place March 25-27 in Miami.

Billed as its ‘only European show of 2011,’ organizers of the U.K.’s Bestival this morning announced The Cure will headline one of the festival’s four nights next September alongside Crystal Castles, the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, DJ Shadow and Primal Scream performing its 1991 album ‘Screamadelica.’

Long-dormant Canadian New Wave act Men Without Hats — or at least frontman Ivan Doroschuk and some backing musicians — will return to the stage tonight in British Columbia as a ‘publicity stunt’ to help promote next year’s planned ‘DanceIfYouWantTour 2011,’ much to the apparent displeasure of Doroschuk’s brother and former bandmate.

Twenty eight years ago today, the first of what would turn out to be two multi-day US Festivals — envisioned by their organizer, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, as ‘Woodstock West’ — opened in blistering 110-degree heat at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino County, Calif.

While U2 was knocked out of its first-ever Glastonbury headlining slot by Bono’s recent tour-scuttling back surgery, fans still got a taste of the Irish megaband tonight when The Edge joined Muse for an encore of the all-time classic ‘Where the Streets Have No Name.’
