Martin Phillipps recently released a brand-new song by The Chills — it’s called “You’re Immortal,” and you can stream it right here — that comes ahead of an anticipated new album to be released by Fire Records at some point in 2021. A new album from The Chills would be the band’s first since 2018’s Snow Bound.

After a bit of social-media teasing, Mute Records this morning announced the release early next year of a new instrumental electronic EP from Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore, a five-song collection that’s preceded by a “ferocious slice of electro” called “Mandrill.” Hear it right here.

Is Depeche Mode’s Martin L. Gore preparing to debut new music next week? Mute Records is teasing something involving Gore happening Nov. 17 — this Tuesday — but it’s not clear what that may be. The label tweeted a stylized image of Gore on Saturday with that date. No other information is yet known.

Industrial rockers Stabbing Westward have released a new Halloween-themed EP called Hallowed Hymns that features new covers of The Cure’s “Burn” — two versions, in fact — as well as Ministry’s “(Every Day Is) Halloween” and Echo & The Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon.” Listen to the new EP right here.

Midnight Oil has released a music video for the second song released off its upcoming mini-album The Makarrata Project, a collaboration with “our First Nations friends” that marks the Oils’ first new music in 17 years. Fittingly, the song is called “First Nation.” Watch the full video right here.

The Captured Tracks record label will launch its new compilation series Excavations this fall with a 28-song collection of largely forgotten indie gems from the era that followed post-punk called Strum & Thrum: The American Jangle Underground 1983-1987. Full details right here.

Pioneering electronic music act Cabaret Voltaire — now just co-founder Richard H. Kirk — will release its first new album in 26 years this November, an eight-song collection called Shadow of Fear that was born out of Kirk’s return to live performance in 2014.
