This week’s round-up of Slicing Up Eyeballs headlines includes posts about Midnight Oil, The Cure, Wire, Gary Numan, The Church and New Order, plus our December mixtape and the second installment of our Rhino ‘Just Can’t Get Enough — The ’80s’ Spotify playlist.

As we revealed last week, the folks at Rhino Records have asked us here at Slicing Up Eyeballs to guest-curate their weekly Rhinofy playlist ‘Just Can’t Get Enough — The ’80s’ on the Spotify streaming-music service for the month of December. So, after last week’s debut 20-song playlist, where back with Week 2.

Classic U.K. post-punk outfit Wire will commemorate its year-long tour in support of the band’s current record, ‘Red Barked Tree,’ by giving its recent tour-only live album — the 13-track ‘The Black Session – Paris 10 May 2011’ — a full worldwide release in February.

Been a while since our last installment of Vintage Video, and even though that post featured the legendary Hüsker Dü, this clips was to good to pass up. The straight-from-VHS video quality’s not the best, but the band’s appearance on a Twin Cities daytime talk show called ‘Good Company’ in April 1986 is priceless.

Back in April, The Church performed a concert at the Sydney Opera House backed by the George Ellis Orchestra dubbed “A Psychedelic Symphony” — and now we can share high-quality video of their performance of classic 1981 single ‘The Unguarded Moment’ and ‘Tantalized,’ off 1986’s ‘Heyday.’

The Cure is preparing a deluxe 20th anniversary reissue of ‘Wish’ for release sometime in 2012, as well as a new 7-inch of that album’s hit single ‘Friday I’m In Love’ to be released on Record Store Day next April to help raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Gary Numan released his latest album, Dead Son Rising, via his website back in September, but it’s just getting a physical release in the U.S. this week — and to promote it, our friends at Consequence of Sound are streaming the full record, which you can hear right here.
