Sonic Youth today announced that it finally will release a long-in-the-works archival, 14-track live album that was recorded on 4-track cassette on Aug. 11, 1985, at Chicago’s Smart Bar while the band was touring the U.S. in support of the the release earlier that year of the group’s second studio album, ‘Bad Moon Rising.’
Mudhoney this fall will release a concert DVD featuring newly re-discovered, professionally shot footage of the band’s 40-minute set at the Berlin Independent Days festival in 1988 in front of Sub Pop Records reps, music critics and fans in what’s now being billed as “the first grunge gig in Europe.”
Peter Murphy returns to Los Angeles this Friday for his third show there this year when he headlines the “Stan Lee’s In Parties” kickoff concert for this weekend’s Comikaze comic-book, sci-fi and fantasy fest, an event at Club Nokia that will be hosted by the comic book legend himself and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Pet Shop Boys, David Byrne and St. Vincent and Tom Tom Club, plus reissues from The Stone Roses and Aztec Camera, a live CD/DVD of The English Beat’s US Festival performances, and best-ofs from Duran Duran and Propaganda.
The playlist from tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” — the Sunday night “darker side of alternative” show on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave — featured Love and Rockets, Southern Death Cult, The Human League, The Stranglers, Killing Joke, The March Violets, Bauhaus, The Psychedelic Furs and much more.
Dinosaur Jr’s third post-reunion album, and 10th full-length effort overall, ‘I Bet On Sky,’ is due out in less than 10 days now, but, starting Sunday night, the band is streaming the full 10-track album via NPR Music. The reunited band recorded the album earlier this year, and it follows 2007′s ‘Beyond’ and 2009′s ‘Farm.’
