On Friday, Pixies frontman Black Francis will help launch the new novel he’s co-authored — “The Good Inn,” which is billed as “blurring the lines between fact and fiction, film and prose, reality and surreality” — at an event in Brooklyn. Keith Levene, founding member of both The Clash and Public Image Ltd., plans to resurrect what was to be PiL’s fourth album —1984’s Commercial Zone, released in two different incarnations — and “enhance it with original material,” finishing the album 30 years later.
Due out next week, the Pixies’ first new album in 23 years isn’t exactly new, given that its 12 tracks each have been released via a series of three EPs over the past seven months. Nevertheless, the band today premiered Indie Cindy via streams at NPR and the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper.
This week’s new releases include XTC’s “corrected polarity” version of ‘Skylarking,’ finally arriving on CD, plus Johnny Marr’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack, a live set from The Fixx on CD and DVD, plus a reissue of The Godfathers’ 1993 self-titled album.
Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured music from Kommunity FK, Fields of the Nephilim, Magazine, Christian Death, Controlled Bleeding, Bauhaus, Au Pairs, Concrete Blonde, Swans, X, Joy Division, Tones on Tail, Lead into Gold, Clan of Xymox, Comsat Angels and more.
