Johnny Marr on Monday canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour dates over a “serious close family illness” this week, while Morrissey revealed in an interview that he’s written a new album and will record the follow-up to “World Peace Is None of Your Business” in February.

The spate of hugely expanded box-set reissues continues next year with Simple Minds’ breakthrough sixth album Sparkle in the Rain — featuring the singles “Waterfront” and “Up on the Catwalk” — set for re-release a a five-disc set featuring B-sides, remixes, BBC sessions, a previously unreleased concert.

Siouxsie and the Banshees will follow this fall’s final batch of remasters with a new introductory best-of set called Spellbound: The Collection next month, which comes as the Banshess’ take advantage of a renewed relationship with Universal Music.

This week’s new release include a box set of R.E.M.’s IRS-era singles on 7-inch, plus the “Millions Like Us” mod revival box set, vinyl reissues from Belly and The Lemonheads, a reissue of The Jam’s “Setting Son” and a new double-album from Camper Van Beethoven offshoot Cracker.

Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured music from The Cure, Meat Beat Manifesto, Play Dead, The Birthday Party, The Lords of the New Church, Alan Vega, Cabaret Voltaire, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Die Krupps, Love and Rockets, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and more.

With Johnny Marr’s North American tour in support of the just-released Playland now entering its second half, the ex-Smiths guitarist has begun spicing up his encore set — already featuring some choice classics from his former band’s catalog — with a cover of Depeche Mode’s 1993 guitar rocker “I Feel You.”

The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced the first of hopefully many U.S. performances of Psychocandy in the form of an appearance next May at the Austin Psych Fest’s three-day Levitation festival. JAMC will play the album in full on a bill that also features The Flaming Lips, Spiritualized and Primal Scream.
